Quick verdict

Built to sit on top of your video, not to make it.

Mindstamp's strongest numbers land in interactivity and reporting, because what a viewer does with the video is the whole point of the product. That is a different axis from the one the avatar tools in this category are sorted on, and the two are not scored against each other. It earns the entry price when the video is already finished and the open question is whether anyone watched it.

Not for you if you have nothing shot yet. Mindstamp generates no footage and edits nothing inside the file, so a team starting from a script needs a video tool first and this one second.

How Mindstamp scored

Interactivity and branching4.8/5
Editor speed4.3/5
Reporting and analytics4.7/5
Team and brand controls4.4/5
Price and value3.4/5

Why trust these scores: the overall 4.4 weights these five at 35% interactivity and branching, 20% reporting and analytics, 15% editor speed, 15% team and brand controls and 15% price and value. Interactivity leads because the interactive layer is the reason to choose Mindstamp over a plain video host, and every other number on this list supports that same job. Four of the five are set against things Mindstamp publishes: the interaction types it lists, the reporting and export options by tier, and the plan table of videos, seats and streaming minutes. The interactivity score is our reading of how far that layer goes, and it is the one number here that rests on judgement rather than a line item. No vendor can pay for a score. Read how we rate.

What we like

  • Turns video that already exists into a lesson, a tour or a pitch without re-editing the file
  • Question types go well past multiple choice, with feedback at each timecode
  • Reporting is built around the individual viewer rather than the video
  • The interactive layer is never rationed by plan, only the commercial features are
  • Takes video straight from Synthesia and HeyGen, so an avatar presenter can be made interactive

Watch out for

  • The entry plan holds two active videos, which a real course leaves behind quickly
  • Conditional logic, the API and HubSpot all start three tiers up
  • Single sign-on and a security review are Enterprise only, quoted from $15,000 a year
  • Room for a new video only comes from retiring an old one

How we rated Mindstamp

Mindstamp edits nothing. The video file stays as it is and the interactive layer is written over the top, which means there is no output of Mindstamp’s own to inspect and the scores here describe the published tool rather than a finished piece of work. ElevenReview runs no hands-on tests, so every figure below comes from Mindstamp’s own documentation: the plan table, the feature list and the integration list by tier. Each source is named with the date it was checked at the end of this review.

Interactivity and branching

This is where Mindstamp is deepest. Questions come in several types, multiple choice, free response, rating, audio, video and drawing, and each one can sit at a chosen timecode with feedback and an explanation shown after the answer. Buttons and hotspots carry links, downloads, navigation and calls to action, or make part of the picture itself clickable. Branching sends a viewer down a different path based on what they chose, and lead capture collects a name, an email or a form submission without leaving the player. Mindstamp states that interactions per video are unlimited on every plan, including the cheapest one. The score stops short of a 5 because the conditional logic that ties personalization together, tailoring text and recommendations to an answer or to known viewer data, does not appear on the plan table until Pro.

Editor speed

Building is fast here in a specific way: nothing has to be re-rendered or re-exported, so a new version of an interaction is live as soon as it is placed. Interaction timing is set to the second against a transcript, the Magic Menu keeps the common tools within reach, and more than 200 Google Fonts are available for styling. What keeps the score at 4.3 is that the speed is per interaction rather than per project. No template assembles a whole quiz, so every question, hotspot and branch is placed by hand, and a long branching module becomes a long build.

Reporting and analytics

The reporting is the second half of the product and the strongest argument for it. Watching, clicking, answering and completing are logged per viewer rather than in aggregate, and the results leave the platform as a CSV export, through webhooks, or into a learning management system as a SCORM 1.2 package with completion and score attached. Google Analytics, Shopify and WooCommerce are on every standard plan, while scheduled exports and interaction webhooks wait for Pro. Most video hosts can tell you that a video was viewed; almost none can tell you which answer a named viewer gave, and that difference is what this score reflects.

Team and brand controls

Seats are generous by the standards of this category, moving from one on Solo and Basic to three on Core, five on Pro, ten on Scale and fifteen on Ultra, with extra seats at $15 per user per month. Viewers are never billed, so a large internal audience costs nothing extra. Branding is where the tiers separate: removing Mindstamp’s player branding and using custom fonts starts at Core, a custom domain and landing page start at Pro, and the controls a regulated team asks for, single sign-on, a security review and NDAs, are listed as Enterprise only. Groups and playlists climb from five on Core to fifteen on Pro. 4.4 marks a strong middle and a low ceiling below Enterprise.

Price and value

Solo is $49 a month or $490 a year, and it carries two active videos and a single seat. Above it the yearly totals run $990, $2,990, $4,990, $9,990 and $24,990 for five, fifty, a hundred, five hundred and fifteen hundred active videos, and Enterprise is quoted from $15,000 a year. The library of videos does not reset with the billing month, so capacity is a ceiling you clear by deleting rather than a pool you refill. Two facts pull in opposite directions: unlimited viewers mean a large audience is free, and a two-video entry plan means a real course outgrows the cheapest tier almost immediately, with the features most teams want starting several hundred dollars a month higher. 3.4 is the cost of that gating, not a comment on the quality of the tool.

Price note: the figures above are Mindstamp’s yearly totals, and paying yearly is advertised as saving at least 15%. Rates move, so check Mindstamp’s own pricing page before you commit.

Who Mindstamp is for

Training, sales and marketing teams that already have the video and need to know what happened to it: onboarding modules that have to be completed, product tours that have to be understood, campaigns that have to return a contact. Course teams using video as teaching material belong here too, since the SCORM export hands completion and score straight to the learning management system they already run.

Frequently asked questions

How is a video view counted?
Streaming minutes are the metered unit. A 90-second view uses 1.5 of them, measured to the second and totalled across the month, while viewers and interactions are not billed at all.
What happens if a month runs past the streaming allowance?
Playback does not stop. The account goes over its minutes, Mindstamp reaches out about capacity, and nothing breaks in front of a viewer mid-course.
Does the free trial keep the work I build?
Mindstamp says you can build and publish during the 14-day trial and keep what you make when you subscribe, and that no card is required to start. There is no free plan, so the trial is the only way to see it running first.

Our verdict

Mindstamp is priced as infrastructure and behaves like it, which is both the case for it and the thing to plan around. The reporting is the part that is hard to replace: completion, answers and paths come back per named viewer and leave in a form an LMS or a dashboard can read, and a general video host does not do that at all. What to plan for is that the useful half of the feature list starts at Core and the security controls a larger buyer needs start at Enterprise, so the plan you actually want is rarely the plan you start on.

Not for you if your video is a marketing asset nobody needs to sit through a question to reach. The interactive layer only pays for itself when something downstream depends on knowing whether the viewer got there.
